If your sprinkler system needs immediate attention, then
Custom Turf is your answer. We have a full time office staff to answer the
phone when you call. A manager will return your call within 24 hours, and
coordinate a good time to meet with you and make the repairs. Our detailed
invoicing system informs you of the exact time that we spent on your
property , and a detailed listing of the products that we used for repairs.
We service ALL brands of irrigation components including the most common -
Rain Bird, Toro, and Hunter.
Start-up
Weather permitting, we begin turning on sprinkler
systems around April 1st. Please follow the
Managing Your Sprinkler System link for more detailed information
on what is performed during sprinkler start-up.
Mid-Season
Inspection/Adjustments
The majority of sprinkler systems that we service
are programmed to come on in the early morning hours. Because of this,
homeowners typically are not able to watch their system run. Occasionally,
problems can arise without the homeowners knowledge. Vehicles can run over
heads, lawnmowers can damage or knock heads out of adjustments, utility
companies can damage pipes or components, etc. Also, your watering frequency
and runtimes need to increase as the weather changes. Custom Turf now offers
a mid-season visit to thoroughly inspect & adjust your sprinkler system, and
set up a new program that is appropriate for the late summer heat. We
perform this service in the month of July.
Blow-out
Sprinkler blow-outs, or winterizations are the act
of emptying the outdoor pipes and components of water prior to winter. This
is a must for all sprinkler systems in Western Pennsylvania. We accomplish
this by first turning off the water to the irrigation, and removing any
outdoor meters, or backflow devices, and storing them in a safe warm place
in your home. Then, using our air compressor, we utilize air pressure to
push all of the water out of the system through heads, hose-bibs, or drip
lines. We begin residential blowouts around the 1st of October & complete
them by December 1st. If we winterized your sprinkler system last year,
installed a new system or worked on the existing system this year, then you
are scheduled to have us winterize your system this fall. Custom Turf will
contact you to schedule an appointment. We come at YOUR convenience. WE DO
NOT SEND OUT MAILERS TELLING YOU WHEN TO BE HOME FOR YOUR SPRINKLER
WINTERIZATION.

Backflow Testing
A few municipalities in Western Pennsylvania
require that irrigation backflow devices be tested annually. Custom Turf
staffs an employee who is certified to test all irrigation backflow devices.
Rain Sensors
Consider having Custom Turf add a rain sensing device to your system. A rain
sensor will shut your system down during measurable rainfall to reduce
wasted watering, and over-saturation of plants. A rain sensor will save
money for you on your water bill, and prevent your grass and plants from
being oversaturated.
Most
systems will accommodate a rain sensor at a cost of $198.50
